In recent days, forward Anthony Richard officially decided to leave the Canadiens organization and sign a one-year (two-way) contract with the Boston Bruins.

This announcement sparked strong reactions among fans of the Canadiens who would have liked to see him stay in Montreal, as he had shown that he could be a valuable support player in case of injuries.

Indeed, the 27-year-old center collected five points in 13 NHL games last season, while also tallying 30 goals and 37 assists (67 points) in 60 games with the Laval Rocket.

During an interview on 98.5 radio, Anthony Richard explained why he declined to sign a contract extension with the Canadiens and chose to join the Bruins instead.

"I negotiated with the Canadiens during the season. I could have stayed. But with all the young players coming up, I believed I had a better chance to play in the NHL with the Bruins." - Anthony Richard

Although General Manager Kent Hughes offered him a contract extension, the forward decided to try his luck elsewhere due to the numerous prospects in the organization knocking on the NHL's door.

After all, we can understand his decision as several young players may have the opportunity to secure a spot with the Canadiens in the coming years. Furthermore, the Bruins currently have only nine forwards under contract, and very few prospects are ready to make the jump to the NHL.

It is still unfortunate to see Anthony Richard, a player who was highly appreciated by the fans, leave the Canadiens. We wish him the best of luck with his new team!
