The Montreal Canadiens' rookie, Arber Xhekaj, has quickly become an essential part of Martin St-Louis' lineup, imposing respect in the defensive zone with his very robust style of play.
It only took a few games for Wifi to earn the respect of all his opponents. Now considered one of the most physical players in the NHL, his contribution is of utmost importance to the Tricolore's defensive brigade.
However, we witnessed a very difficult scene to watch during Game #7 between the Devils and the Rangers. Indeed, Jacob Trouba delivered a violent hit to Timo Meier in the middle of the rink, solidly crushing his opponent.
The forward had to leave for the team's locker room and only returned at the end of the game to shake hands with his opponents. Acquired at the trade deadline, Meier practiced with a full visor this morning, as he was unable to participate in tonight's game against the Hurricanes.
Here is the hit in question:
Simona Xhekaj, Arber's mother, took the opportunity to give her opinion on the robust play in the NHL:
"It's hard, I have a son who is a big guy who hits like a tank, hockey is a very fast sport, faster than ever, you have to be aware of your surroundings, I hate seeing injured players, but unfortunately it's part of the game."
The good news for Xhekaj's mom is that her son is more likely to be the player inflicting injury than the one suffering from it.
