Breaking news: Kent Hughes has made a major statement regarding Matvei Michkov and the fans can dream
The Montreal Canadiens' front office is currently at the NHL Combine in Buffalo to meet and evaluate prospects for the 2023 Draft. In fact, in the last few minutes, Kent Hughes has met with the media and made a very interesting statement about the Russian prodigy.
Despite the situation surrounding Matvei Michkov, the Canadiens' general manager was very reassuring when asked about the 18-year-old. Indeed, he specifically mentioned that even though he hadn't had the opportunity to see the forward in person this year, he had had the chance to watch a lot of videos.
He continued by adding that the organization primarily looks at the player's performance and then assesses the risks associated with his situation.
"First, we have to evaluate him as a hockey player and compare him to the others who are available in the draft. We'll take care of the rest afterwards (referring here to the complicated situation of the Russian)." -Kent Hughes
This is great news for Canadiens fans who dream of seeing Matvei Michkov in a Habs jersey, as there is no doubt he is the forward with the most potential after Connor Bedard.
He also mentioned that his contract with SKA Saint Petersburg does not scare him, as the organization ultimately wants to draft the player who will have the biggest impact on the team in the long run.
Surely, this press point can give hope to fans ahead of the draft, but we still have to wait until June 28th for a definitive answer about the Canadiens' selection.
