Casey DeSmith has just reacted to his trade: it's really not going well
Being a professional hockey player is not always glamorous, especially when a trade occurs in a career, and the player has a family, including children.
Unfortunately, this is the case for Casey DeSmith, who has just broken his public silence regarding the trade that sent him to the Montreal Canadiens, and things are not going very well for him right now.
Here is what the excellent journalist Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports reported in the last few hours:
"I am told that Casey DeSmith and his partner are experiencing a great deal of anxiety right now.
His wife is due to give birth in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The goalie, for his part, is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to move his little family."
In connection with a future outcome for an upcoming transaction within the Tricolore, Martineau stated that Kent Hughes would always be open to trade possibilities, implying that DeSmith is not necessarily the goalie who might change addresses in the coming weeks.
"Montreal seems open for business regarding its goaltenders, I am also told. The club has not yet made a decision, is listening attentively, and gives the impression of looking for the most profitable avenue for itself."
Obviously, as a good general manager, Hughes is actively trying to get the best trade opportunity to help his team in the long term. If Samuel Montembeault's fate is quite clear, as he has been confirmed to remain in Montreal, the same is not true for Jake Allen.
However, it is entirely understandable that this situation must be very painful for a player, but especially for a family that still does not know what to expect or where they will have to move, as they are expecting a newborn very soon.
For the sake of the DeSmith family, let's hope that the matter can be resolved as soon as possible so that they can settle for the next season.
