Over the past few days, Cole Caufield's agent, Pat Brisson, has agreed to give interviews to discuss the contract negotiations that took place with Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
He revealed very important information that is likely to greatly please the fans of the Tricolore.
Indeed, Pat Brisson said that during his discussions with Caufield and his family, the agent brought up the possibility of signing a bridge contract to allow the forward to possibly earn a higher salary in three or four years.
However, the 22-year-old immediately refused this proposal, as he wanted to ensure he stayed in Montreal for the long term.
"He liked the direction the team was taking. He loves the city, he loves Quebec. [...] He wanted at least six years." - Pat Brisson
We learned that Cole Caufield had asked for a contract of at least 6 to 8 years in order to stay with the organization as long as possible.
Wow! It's very pleasing to hear that money was not a determining factor in his decision and that he absolutely wanted to stay with the Canadiens.
There's nothing better than a player who wants to play for your team for the right reasons and we now have proof that Cole Caufield truly wants to be part of the rebuilding process initiated by the Canadiens.
