Very recently, the NHL finally responded to the controversy involving Wes McCauley and Sheldon Keefe. In fact, the former will not officiate the game 2 between the Leafs and the Lightning tonight.
"Referees Eric Furlatt and Trevor Hanson get the call for Game 2 of Leafs vs. Lightning tonight," said Chris Johnston.
After the first game, there was controversy among Leafs fans who attributed Toronto's loss to Wes McCauley.
It's worth noting that McCauley and Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe have a strained relationship. A few years ago, Keefe testified against McCauley's brother-in-law in a hearing that involved serious charges. Additionally, Keefe was fined for yelling at McCauley, who was the referee in that incident.
Some fans also pointed out that the Lightning had not lost a single game when McCauley was the referee, which was quite a coincidence.
However, McCauley was replaced for tonight's game, which thrilled Toronto Maple Leafs fans. It remains to be seen how tonight's game will go. Stay tuned!
