In order to make room for the forward, the Kings freed up a contract from their salary cap by trading 24-year-old promising defenseman Sean Durzi to the Arizona Coyotes for a second round pick in 2024.
This season, Durzi amassed an impressive 38 points in 72 games, including nine goals, despite limited playing time due to Drew Doughty's presence in the lineup.
It was only Durzi's second season in the NHL as he racked up 27 points in 64 games during his rookie campaign last year.
For those wondering how Christian Dvorak is connected to this trade: a second pick involved in this deal belonged to Montreal Canadiens. This pick and a first round selection for 2022 were part of package sent for Dvorak two years ago.
In other words, the exchange of the Coyotes for Dvorak has earned them a first-round pick, as well as Durzi who could possibly become a 50 point producer per season.
This trade made by Marc Bergevin is looking worse and worse as time goes on. Not only has Dvorak provided disappointing offensive production to Montreal, but he also comes with a 4.45 million dollar contract valid for two more seasons, making him quite the hot potato for the Canadiens. We don't often applaud the Coyotes, but in this case they have definitely come out on top!
