Expected Jake Allen transaction: Things are moving, and there seems to be a bidding war between two teams
If Kent Hughes is taking his time to trade Jake Allen, it's because he believes in the goalie's value and is waiting for the right offer. If he wanted to trade him for next to nothing, it would be old news, and Allen would already be elsewhere.
Waiting for the right offer takes time, but it can pay off. One thing is certain: several teams are interested in number 34.
"Some teams have informed the Canadiens that they will revisit Jake Allen after the holidays to continue discussions regarding a potential trade. It will be interesting to see in the next month if the Carolina Hurricanes, the New Jersey Devils, and the Edmonton Oilers will contact Kent Hughes again. Moreover, I am confident that all three teams have already reached out to the Canadiens since the start of the season, and I have reason to believe that the Hurricanes' GM recently spoke with Kent Hughes about a possible transaction." - Pierre LeBrun
LeBrun adds that two rival teams are in the race and could drive up the bidding on their own.
"The situation with the Devils and the Hurricanes is interesting because they are both battling in the standings, teams that were supposed to be Stanley Cup contenders before the season but have had issues with their goalies. I wonder if Montreal could drive up the bidding between the two teams." - Pierre LeBrun
As time goes on, there's less talk about the Oilers and more about the Hurricanes, especially since Antti Raanta is now in the American Hockey League. It will be very interesting to see what happens after the trade freeze on December 28th
