Extension of Samuel Montembeault's contract: Major news has just been revealed
During the last season, Samuel Montembeault experienced a very impressive progression, proving dominant with the Canadian team during the World Championship. Indeed, the Quebecer managed to show the Canadiens' higher-ups that he deserved a more significant role in 2023-2024.
In the final year of his contract, the 26-year-old goaltender has repeatedly mentioned his keen interest in signing a new deal before training camp begins. Many observers expected the Canadiens' general manager, Kent Hughes, to offer him a new contract over the summer.
However, the esteemed Marc Antoine Godin has just revealed major news about Samuel Montembeault's future, stating that there had been no discussions between the management and the goaltender's camp.
Looking forward to seeing how the poker game between Samuel Montembeault and the Canadiens evolves. There are no negotiations at the moment, but if it were to spill over into the season and Montembeault continued his positive trajectory, the price tag might be very different come Christmas. - Marc Antoine Godin
Although the Canadiens have several goalies within the organization, Montembeault appears to be the chosen one to take the number one role in the coming seasons. It's quite surprising to learn that no contract discussions have taken place between the two parties.
Do you believe that Kent Hughes should offer him a contract extension before the season starts, or would it be better to wait until next summer?
One thing is sure; it will be a defining season for Sam who will attempt to prove that he can be the organization's future goaltender. We are all eager to see him perform this year and strongly hope that he will continue making significant strides in his development.
