As time passes and we approach the start of the new season in the NHL, the National League continues to make a mockery of itself in relation to the major scandal with the 2018 Team Canada junior edition.
While the league's investigation has reportedly been concluded since July, no suspensions have yet been announced, even though five players are said to be implicitly involved, including several players currently playing in the NHL.
Obviously, to many, seeing these players potentially participate in the new campaign is causing consternation. A significant number of journalists expected a major announcement from Gary Bettman before the start of the season, but according to informant Pierre LeBrun, this will not be the case.
"Bettman has not provided any further updates on the 2018 Team Canada junior and the league's investigation. It seems that the league's announcement on this matter is not imminent for now."
- Pierre LeBrun
Yikes! Unless there's a significant turnaround, all signs point to the involved players playing as if nothing happened this year, at least for now.
Honestly, this is dragging on and for some, it suggests that the NHL might let this matter fade into obscurity. Quite frankly, let's hope that's not the case.
