Great news involving Jonathan Drouin emerges in Colorado.
Montreal Canadiens fans were very excited at the idea of acquiring a young, talented Quebecois forward when Marc Bergevin traded for Jonathan Drouin in 2017. Unfortunately, his time in Montreal did not go as many had hoped.
Indeed, he was unable to meet the expectations set for him, collecting only 186 points in six seasons wearing the Blue-White-Red uniform. With the last year of his contract in 2022-2023, there was no doubt that the Sainte-Agathe native would not be returning to the Tricolore.
However, even though he faced challenges in recent years, several NHL teams were interested in his services last July 1st. After all, it's quite understandable given his incredible offensive skills and the potential to revive his career with a new team.
In the end, Jonathan Drouin signed a one-year deal with a salary of $825,000 with the Colorado Avalanche, joining his good friend and former Halifax Mooseheads teammate, Nathan MacKinnon. The two forwards had developed excellent chemistry during their junior ranks, terrorizing opposing defenses night after night.
It's worth noting that in their last two seasons in the QMJHL, Jonathan Drouin amassed an impressive total of 213 points in 95 games, while Nathan MacKinnon collected 153 points in 102 games. Playing alongside one of the NHL's best players could certainly benefit him, especially if he manages to find his offensive touch again.
Furthermore, journalist Evan Rawal from Colorado Hockey Now revealed very interesting information regarding the former Tricolore forward. Indeed, Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon are committed to rekindling their connection, as they train together daily. If Jared Bednar decides to use them on the same line at the start of the season, it could be quite destructive.
One thing is for sure, we are very pleased to see that the Quebecer is currently working hard. We sincerely hope he will have a successful season and be able to revive his career!
