He mentioned this:
Yikes! If this is the case, although the statement is in one sense good news for the club, as it would mean that the organization would not lose him for nothing, let's just say his value just took a hit.
Has Primeau just hit rock bottom in his development?
Now 24 years old, it must be said that the emergence of the seventh-round pick in 2017 is starting to be awaited. Although he had absolutely exceptional playoffs in the spring of 2022, suggesting he had reached a new level in his game, the following season was relatively disappointing.
He didn't set the AHL on fire, posting an average of 3.04 and a save percentage of 0.909 in his fourth professional campaign. Additionally, his three starts with the Canadiens were not very impressive either.
Now that he must go through waivers at the beginning of the season, if he were to be sent down to the Rocket again, something that seems inevitable for him, the CH could lose his services.
However, Dumont's reasoning makes sense in the context that when you claim a player off waivers, you have to keep him in the NHL lineup, and the fact that Primeau has never proven that he could be a regular goaltender in the league feeds into the likelihood that he won't be claimed.
