It's now confirmed: the Montreal Canadiens have made their choice, and it's more than deserved for Samuel Montembeault
Since signing his contract a few days ago, there's been speculation that Samuel Montembeault is the new number one goaltender for the team. However, he had not yet played before Monday.
Once again, shining in his start on Monday night, Monty essentially forced the Canadiens to use him more often. For the first time since mid-October, a Canadiens goaltender will have a second consecutive start.
Indeed, Montembeault will be in the net tomorrow night against the powerful Los Angeles Kings. Finally, the rotation is over, and the Canadiens seem to have made their choice.
With a record of 6-3-1, a 2.66 goals against average, and a .913 save percentage, there's no doubt it's the right choice. Samuel has earned the title of the number one goaltender.
At 5-on-5, it's close to a .950 save percentage, putting him among the NHL elite. Let's see if he maintains this level of performance with an increased workload!
