Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault are involved in a rare phenomenon in the NHL
While the Canadiens were practicing in Brossard before heading to Philadelphia for Wednesday night's game, something special happened during the training.
The team showed that there are benefits to having a three-goalie situation and that it's essential to take advantage of this challenging situation for everyone.
On Ice B at the CN Sports Centre, there was the regular team practice with the players. On Ice A, there was Eric Raymond, the goalie coach. Monty and Allen were going back and forth, exchanging roles.
"After 20 minutes of the session, Montembeault comes back from Ice B and takes his place in front of the net. Jake Allen goes the other way." - Anthony Martineau<
Cayden Primeau was confirmed as the goaltender, so he followed the starting routine and took part in the full practice with his teammates.
Private coaching sessions seconds after a team practice are very rare, and goalies rarely get the opportunity to fine-tune certain aspects of their technique like this on the fly.
It's a brilliant idea that might not be possible without the three-goalie situation, but most would still prefer to have two goalies in the organization.
