Joel Edmundson involved in a trade proposal with the New York Islanders

Throughout the season, Joel Edmundson has been involved in several trade rumors. In fact, if it weren't for his back injury, the defender would likely have changed addresses at the trade deadline.

In an article on The Athletic, Marc Antoine Grondin discussed the various options available to Kent Hughes this summer. According to him, it would not be surprising to see the 29-year-old defender traded. He specifically thinks that three teams could be interested in acquiring his services.

Indeed, Grondin mentions that the New York Islanders, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Los Angeles Kings would be potential destinations for Joel Edmundson.

The journalist went further by proposing a trade offer between the Habs and the Islanders that could certainly be beneficial for both teams.

At the Islanders, Edmundson can become an option - again, by retaining half of his salary - if Lou Lamoriello can't come to an agreement with Scott Mayfield. You give Edmundson for half his price and take Bailey's contract, you should be able to get something good

Taking these information into account,Marco Normandin from Habsolutelyfan suggested a trade offer between the two teams

TO MONTREAL:

Josh Bailey
First-round pick in 2024 (protected)
Second-round pick in 2023

TO NEW YORK:

Joel Edmundson (50% salary retained)

This would be a very profitable trade for the Canadiens who would receive another first-round pick in return for a defender who will likely play his last season with the organization in 2023-2024.

It would be surprising if the Islanders were ready to part with two draft picks, but if that's the case, Kent Hughes absolutely must seize the opportunity.

On his part, Josh Bailey commands a salary of $5 million for the next year. However, the offensive contribution of the forward has greatly decreased in recent seasons, as he only scored 8 goals and 17 assists in 64 games in 2022-2023.
