Kent Hughes will face the difficult task of freeing up salary cap space this summer. It's a task that has weighed on him since his arrival as general manager of the Canadiens.

He will have to make important decisions to meet the team's needs, including potentially extending Cole Caufield's contract and the possible arrival of Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Hughes will be forced to make adjustments to the roster as some contracts expire and players such as Joel Edmundson and Christian Dvorak could be traded during the summer.

Dvorak's future is uncertain, as the 27-year-old center has not been very productive since arriving in Montreal, especially considering his high salary of $4,450,000 per season.

The problem is that the interest of other teams in the player is far from guaranteed. As a third line center on a good team, Dvorak earns a higher salary than usual for a player in this position, which could discourage several interested teams.

As a result, it would be surprising if Kent Hughes set too high a price for Dvorak. If an offer is presented, it is likely that he will seriously consider it. If the Canadiens succeed in replacing Dvorak with Pierre-Luc Dubois as center, it would be a big success for Hughes this summer and a big coup for the team.
