Here's what my colleague, William Nadeau from Habs et LNH, noted about his interview:
- His departure from Anaheim was a mutual decision between him and the team.
- He's been working hard this summer to improve his speed, and the results are already showing.
- He's already in negotiations with some teams for a new contract.
- He clearly mentioned that he would like to play for the Montreal Canadiens.
While he couldn't reveal the identities of the teams he's currently negotiating with, his response spoke volumes when asked about the Canadiens.
In line with his desire to join the Montreal organization, Comtois sent another message to Canadiens' GM, Kent Hughes.
At 24 years old, Comtois has accumulated 86 points, including 38 goals, in 210 NHL games. After making an excellent impression in his second professional season with 16 goals and 33 points in 55 games, the following two seasons were a disappointment. He only managed 15 goals and 35 points in 116 games.
A change of scenery could be highly beneficial for him, as he certainly has the skills and physique to secure a spot in an NHL team's top-nine forward group. Under Martin St-Louis, he could definitely improve his game.
Would you be willing to offer him a contract of less than $1 million to give him a chance to prove himself? It could be a low-risk move that turns out well if he has a great season with the Canadiens.
