Endowed with great potential, the defenseman was completely dominant in his first year in collegiate ranks, collecting an impressive total of 15 goals and 33 assists (48 points) in 39 games. He notably wore the colors of the U.S. team during the World Junior Championship (4 points in 7 games) and during the World Championship this summer, amassing 6 points in 9 games against several NHL players.
A ranking shared by Big Head Hockey on Twitter highlighted the offensive skills of the young defenseman. In fact, since the lockout in 2012-2013, the Canadiens' prospect is the most productive 19-year-old defenseman in collegiate ranks, ahead of top players such as Adam Fox, Luke Hughes, Zach Werenski, and Justin Faulk.
Wow! Although this statistic is not a guarantee of success in the NHL, it's still downright impressive to see the players who rank behind Lane Hutson in this classification. One thing's for sure, the defenseman is currently proving to the Canadiens' management that they made the right decision to draft him 62nd overall.
We are eagerly looking forward to following his progress with the Boston University Terriers this year, where he will notably take on the role of assistant captain. Will we see his first game in a Canadiens jersey in 2023-2024? Just like Sean Farrell last year, Lane Hutson could possibly join the team for a few games at the end of the season.
