Last-minute major announcement from the Toronto Maple Leafs
Due to the Toronto Maple Leafs' recent playoff failures, General Manager Kyle Dubas took the heat this summer. Indeed, a few weeks ago, Brendan Shanahan announced that Dubas had been relieved of his duties, being replaced by former Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving.
Moreover, in the last few minutes, the organization announced that they are extending their relationship with head coach Sheldon Keefe, who has signed a new multi-year deal. It's worth noting that Keefe's future in Toronto was still uncertain as he was entering the last year of his contract.
"Leafs announce they've signed coach Sheldon Keefe to a multi-year contract extension. He was entering the final year of his deal."
This is a rather surprising announcement as many experts thought that the 2023-2024 season would determine his future with the team. Clearly, the Leafs' executives have confidence in their head coach and wish to continue the work he has accomplished in recent years.
