Last-minute major development: the verdict is in for Jake Allen
We have just learned of a very significant development concerning the Montreal Canadiens' goaltender, Jake Allen.
Given the surplus at this position within the organization, following the acquisition of Casey DeSmith, all signs pointed to an imminent departure for one of the team's goalies.
However, the choice of the candidate who would be packing his bags was not yet confirmed, as both veterans could assume the role of backing up Samuel Montembeault.
Now we learn from Raphaël Doucet that Allen will stay with the Canadiens. According to a well-informed source, he has received confirmation that he will remain in Montreal.
"A well-informed source just texted me that Allen has been told he is staying in Montreal.
Does this mean DeSmith will be traded?"
As a result, it is highly likely that DeSmith will be traded by Kent Hughes in the coming weeks.
In a way, due to his excellent contract and decent statistics for a backup goalie, it would not be surprising to learn that he is also the one with the best market value.
One thing is certain, the verdict is in for Allen; he will be in Montreal for the next season.
