To that effect, Michael Gallagher from Nashville Hockey Now has just dropped a bomb on social media, mentioning that the Habs are very interested in Matvei Michkov. He went on to suggest that the 18-year-old would be Kent Hughes' choice if he's still available when the Canadiens make their selection tonight.
Wow! What wonderful news!
Anthony Martineau seconded this by stating that Michkov's agent, Max Moliver, had confirmed that the Habs are very interested in the Russian and that their meeting with the organization went very well.
Remember, Matvei Michkov is widely considered the second-best player in the 2023 draft. The forward has accumulated historic statistics for an 18-year-old in the KHL this season, with a haul of 20 points (including 9 goals) in 27 games. Several journalists already predict he'll quickly become one of the best players in the NHL once he makes the leap.
We can't wait to see who the Canadiens will pick in a few hours!
