The Ducks could give a huge gift to the Canadiens at the draft tonight
We are finally just a few hours away from the draft and Montreal Canadiens fans are eager to see which player Kent Hughes will select in the 5th spot. In fact, numerous rumors are currently circulating in the NHL backstage regarding the next destination of Russian prospect Matvei Michkov.
Indeed, according to information reported by Elliotte Friedman on his podcast 32 Thoughts, the Anaheim Ducks could cause a huge surprise at Bridgestone Arena by drafting Michkov in the 2nd spot.
"This guy (Pat Verbeek, the general manager of the Ducks) can do anything. You have (speaking to Marek) someone who texted you saying he could take Michkov (Anaheim) and I think that's very credible."
Wow! This would be great news for the Habs who would have the chance to get their hands on a top-tier center such as Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith. The selection of the Russian prodigy within the first four spots would spare Kent Hughes from making a tough decision and would undoubtedly reduce the speculations regarding a trade involving the 5th overall pick.
As Marc-Olivier Beaudoin so well emphasized, such a scenario would be a real gift from heaven for the Montreal organization.
"Let's say the Ducks draft Matvei Michkov (which would still be surprising after all), one of Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson or Will Smith would certainly remain available for the Habs.
It's pretty obvious that the 5th pick would be "off the table" if such a scenario happens!"
One thing is for sure, we will have a definitive answer in a few hours!
