After stating that the 20-year-old was the Canadiens' top prospect, McCagg revealed that Mark Hunter, the GM of the team Mailloux has played for the past two seasons, said in his view, Mailloux was the best blue line talent to have played for the London Knights since John Carlson, an NHL star defenseman.
Considering that excellent defensemen have played for this iconic Canadian junior team, such as Adam Boqvist, Evan Bouchard, Ryan Merkley, Nikita Zadorov, and Olli Maatta since Carlson, this speaks volumes about Mailloux's potential with the Canadiens.
In 59 games this season, Mailloux scored 25 goals and 53 points. In fact, he finished first among scoring defensemen, quite an impressive achievement. He was even more impressive in the playoffs, finishing sixth in league scoring, with eight goals and 24 points in 21 games.
He stepped up his game when it mattered most, an important skill for the continuation of his career as he transitions to professional hockey this year.
We are excited to see his level of play during the preseason games next September.
