Significant developments have occurred in the last few minutes regarding the continuation of the series between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Unfortunately for Lightning fans, the worst case scenario is confirmed as all three players who left game one are injured. Two of them have already been confirmed unavailable for game 2.
"Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper stated that Erik Cernak and Michael Eysimmont would not be playing in game 2. Victor Hedman is a last minute decision," said Elliotte Friedman. The exact severity of Hedman's injury is yet to be determined, but it's clear that he's uncomfortable and won't be at 100% capacity. This will certainly affect the Lightning's chances. As for Cernak, his injury represents a significant loss on all levels.
Furthermore, despite the wishes of Toronto fans and the immense pressure he's put on himself by calling his team the "best team in the world," Leafs' head coach Sheldon Keefe has announced that Ilya Samsonov will be the starting goaltender for game two.
This decision is surprising, as Samsonov was replaced during the first game after conceding 6 goals on 29 shots.
