Over the past few days, numerous journalists have reported that Kent Hughes is actively looking to move up a few ranks for the upcoming draft, who would very much like to get his hands on a center player like Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson or even Will Smith.

However, if the Canadiens are unable to make a trade to be able to draft among the first four selections, could Kent Hughes decide to move back? After all, players ranked between 6th and 10th all have a lot of talent and all the experts agree that there is no consensus on the order of players who will be selected after the fourth rank.

Former Tricolor recruiter Grant McCagg made a particularly interesting trade proposal. Indeed, he believes that the Washington Capitals are the perfect team to host Matvei Michkov, as they already have several Russian players within the organization. The Canadiens could therefore take advantage of this situation to trade the 5th overall pick in order to move back to the 8th rank and thus receive a first-round pick next year.

Here is the trade suggested by Grant McCagg:

TO MONTREAL:
- The 8th overall pick in 2023
- A first-round pick in 2024

TO WASHINGTON:
- The 5th overall pick

Honestly, if Michkov is the last available player from the famous Big Five and the Canadiens' top brass has no intention of drafting him, this trade becomes very interesting. Kent Hughes could select an excellent player like Dalibor Dvorsky, Zach Benson or even David Reinbacher at the 8th rank. In addition, considering that the Capitals are no longer as dominant as before, the first-round pick in 2024 could easily become a top-10 next year.

If you were in Kent Hughes' place, would you accept this trade?
