Major turnaround: Paul Byron could be back in the game this season?
During a recent press conference, Kent Hughes made some very revealing statements regarding Paul Byron's future. Indeed, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens practically confirmed that the forward would be announcing his retirement soon, adding that he would possibly like to assign him a role within the organization.
However, during his appearance on the podcast The Knuckles Podcast with Chris Nilan, Paul Byron made a significant statement about his future, mentioning that he would like to sign a new contract for the upcoming season if the doctors gave him the green light to return to play.
If I lose hope, it goes against my values. I haven't reached that point yet, mentally [...] If they told me I could play another 20-30 games, I'd try to sign a contract somewhere. Paul Byron
On the other hand, he admitted that the latest medical updates were not very encouraging. We can't imagine how hard it must be for him right now. He clearly wants to continue his professional hockey career, but his body just isn't allowing him at the moment.
Paul Byron stated that he wouldn't rule out the possibility of moving to Europe, believing he could get several opportunities there if he manages to return to 100%.
The Canadiens forward reiterated his keen interest in pursuing a coaching career. He undoubtedly has the required qualities, adequate experience, and necessary skills to potentially become an excellent coach.
We sincerely hope that the number 41 of the habs will be able to regain his health and practice his passion.
