Recall the pre-game press conference in Detroit on November 9th when Cayden Primeau was chosen to be in the net. Martin St-Louis was rather curt with the journalists regarding this decision, which clearly did not seem to be his own.
The coach had explicitly mentioned that it wasn't the initial plan and that Primeau was playing because he hadn't played in a while. St-Louis was not in a good mood and forced the journalists to move on to other questions.
Since that day, new information has surfaced. The Edmonton Oilers send scouts to each of the Canadiens' games, and Elliotte Friedman added that they are interested in any of the three goaltenders in Montreal.
Could Kent Hughes be the one pulling the strings regarding the choice of the goalie? The current rotation doesn't make sense. Even after a very strong performance, a goalie has to wait for three games before returning to the net, which is far from ideal.
It's a hypothesis, but with the new information provided by Friedman, Martin St-Louis's attitude on that fateful November 9th is now understandable. This is a story to follow closely...
