Knowing that the team has very little wiggle room under the salary cap, it would not be surprising if a general manager decided to submit an offer sheet to Evan Bouchard, who will become a restricted free agent this summer.
The 23-year-old has shown a rapid progression this season, proving that he could become one of the best offensive defenseman in the NHL, as he is a good quarterback on the power play.
Since his arrival in the NHL, Evan Bouchard has reached the 40-point mark in his only two full seasons with the Oilers. Furthermore, the defenseman native of Oakville, Ontario has been even more impressive in the playoffs with a collection of 17 points in just 12 games.
During their podcast DFO Rundown, Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor discussed the possibility of a team submitting an offer sheet for defenseman Evan Bouchard.
Seravalli pointed out that the Canadiens would be a logical team as they have several million dollars under the salary cap and there is a need to fill on the right side of the defense. Moreover, with the Tricolore's power play woes last season, there is no doubt that the addition of Evan Bouchard could be hugely beneficial.
Although he could be an interesting option for the Canadiens, it remains to be seen whether an offer sheet will actually be submitted by Kent Hughes.
