The General Manager of the Ottawa Senators, Pierre Dorion, caused quite a surprise yesterday afternoon by submitting the former first-round pick, Lassi Thomson, to waivers.

Some fans were even hoping that the Montreal Canadiens would seize this opportunity to add a promising young defender to their organization, especially since there are many uncertainties on the right side of the defensive brigade for the 2023-2024 season.

Unfortunately, the management of the Tricolore didn't even have the time to make a decision regarding the player selected at the 19th rank in 2019. Indeed, the Anaheim Ducks, who had the second pick in the waiver, immediately claimed the defender.

The Finn will thus join a well-endowed defense including very talented players such as Jamie Drysdale, Pavel Mintyukov, Olen Zellweger, Tristan Luneau, Jackson LaCombe, and Noah Warren.

The young defender has immense potential, recognized particularly for his ability to contribute offensively. In his last two seasons in the AHL, Thomson has accumulated an impressive total of 17 goals and 42 assists (59 points) in 100 games. It will be very interesting to see if the 23-year-old defenseman manages to earn a spot with the team this year.

One thing is for sure, we would have liked to see what the Canadiens would have done if Lassi Thomson had still been available.
