Pierre LeBrun revealed major information concerning a very large transaction that was refused at the last second: Torey Krug explains
According to information reported by Pierre LeBrun, a major transaction involving the St. Louis Blues and the Philadelphia Flyers had been concluded earlier this summer. However, the trade was eventually cancelled as defenseman Torey Krug refused to waive his no-trade clause, wishing to stay with the Blues.
Indeed, the transaction was well and truly settled between the two general managers. Torey Krug was supposed to head to Philadelphia, while Travis Sanheim and Kevin Hayes were heading to St. Louis.
However, the former Boston Bruins player decided otherwise, using his no-trade clause to ultimately cancel the transaction. Moreover, in the last few hours, defenseman Torey Krug explained why he had refused to join the Flyers.
«I chose to stay here. I want to be a part of this locker room; I love playing for this city and wearing the logo.»
«It makes me anxious. You obviously don't like hearing such things. I have kids, a family, a lot to think about. But in the end, as I said, I want to play here and wear [the Blues jersey]. We have a good group in the locker room, and we have a good feeling about this year. I think we can turn things around quickly.» - Torey Krug
The team's new captain, Brayden Schenn, also admitted Krug did not want to join a rebuilding team, hoping to have success this season.
«He didn't want to be traded to a team where he felt he had less chance of winning, let's put it that way. Philadelphia is in a rebuilding phase, and we think we can be competitive here.» - Brayden Schenn
Now 32 years old, Torey Krug amassed 32 points in 65 games with the St. Louis Blues last year, his smallest haul since starting in the NHL.
