While many believe that Casey DeSmith will possibly be traded in the coming days or weeks, according to the former goaltender coach of the Tricolore, Stéphane Waite, there would also be another desirable departure in the organization.
During a recent appearance on 98.5 Sports radio, he stated that he would do everything to trade Jake Allen, if he were a Canadiens executive.
Waite also asserts that he would strongly like the club to give a real chance to young Cayden Primeau, noting that the team has absolutely nothing to lose, especially since he has to go through waivers at the beginning of the season.
Reminding that the latter is only 24 years old, he wants to see him get a real opportunity to prove himself, instead of risking losing him for nothing at the beginning of the season, if he were to be returned to Laval.
On this point, I have to admit that I agree. Allen has been very ordinary over the last two seasons, offering little stability in front of the net, and being injured more often than not.
It would be hard to believe that Primeau could actually do worse than him as a backup to Samuel Montembeault. Where I have a doubt is seeing a duo of two young goaltenders in front of the CH net.
I believe that Monty still needs a good veteran to support him, but it is also possible that he is already ready to fully assume the role of number one.
