Surprise: David Reinbacher with the Canadiens in the coming months?
During the 2020-21 season, the Canadiens brought Cole Caufield at the end of his NCAA season. The forward had an immediate impact at the end of the season and in the playoffs.
In 2022-23, it was Sean Farrell who followed a similar path to Caufield. He managed to score his first NHL goal during that time and is now playing for the Rocket.
This season, there are two candidates, Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher. In the case of the American, it all depends on whether he prefers to continue his studies. As for the Austrian, he could very well come to North America and play for the Canadiens.
His regular season in Switzerland ends on March 4, and unless there's a surprise, his team is not expected to make the playoffs. He could be the next young player to finish the season with the Canadiens.
This is the suggestion made by former Canadiens scout, Grant McCagg:
"Kloten last 5-1 today to a .500 team. A 2-5-1-1 record without Reinbacher, tied for secon-last in the Swiss League. Kloten's regular season ends on March 4.
In related news, the Canadiens play 20 more games from March 9 on." - Grant McCagg
With 20 games remaining for the Canadiens after Reinbacher's season with Kloten, it provides ample time for the young man to acclimate to North American hockey and also gives the team a good idea of his development.
