We are talking about the Quebecer forward Philippe Maillet, who signed a one-season deal with the Tricolore this summer. Indeed, although he is 30 years old, the former Washington Capitals player was one of the best forwards in the KHL last season, ranking 13th among the league's top scorers with a haul of 22 goals and 31 assists (53 points) in 66 games.
It would be surprising if he secures a position with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge at the start of the season, but if he manages to find success in the preseason games, he could be a very interesting option in case of injuries. Moreover, he is likely to have a leading role with the Laval Rocket this year, having accumulated 21 points in 15 games in the AHL in 2020-2021.
Even though his signing flew somewhat under the radar last July 1st, his acquisition could greatly assist the organization this season. Having played over 200 games in the American League, his experience will certainly be beneficial for young players such as Joshua Roy, Riley Kidney, and Sean Farrel. One thing is for sure, he will definitely be a player to watch in the coming weeks, or even the coming months.
Philippe Maillet's statistics:

- 17 goals and 27 assists (44 points) in 61 games in the AHL (2019-2020)
- 6 goals and 15 assists (21 points) in 15 games in the AHL (2020-2021)
