Oddly enough, two players from the Montreal Canadiens appear on David Pagnotta's list, but also on Michael Russo's list. These are the forward Mike Hoffman and the defenseman Joel Edmundson, who are in their final contract year with the Tricolore.
Because of the emergence of several young players looking to earn a spot on Martin St-Louis's lineup, it would not be surprising if Kent Hughes trades the two veterans this summer to free up two spots on the roster, but also to save a few million dollars on the payroll.
In the case of Joel Edmundson, the CH could certainly get an interesting return. Aged 29, the 6-foot-5, 221-pound defenseman could be a significant addition for a team looking to go far in the playoffs. Plus, Edmundson's experience, having already won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues, could be very beneficial.
However, could Edmundson's value be higher at the trade deadline? That's a question worth asking.
As for Mike Hoffman, the forward has only scored 14 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 matches this season. It is quite surprising to see him on this list, as his market value must be incredibly low. However, if Kent Hughes decided to retain some part of his salary for the 2023-2024 season, perhaps some teams would be interested in acquiring him.
It would be great news if the General Manager of the Tricolore was able to get rid of his contract, which unfortunately prevents some young players from advancing to the top-6 of the team.
