The Carolina Hurricanes have quietly been one of the NHL's best teams for the past five seasons.

In fact, ever since Rod Brind'Amour was appointed as the team's head coach in 2018, his team has never missed the playoffs. They have twice reached the second playoff round and twice the final four.

Even though this team is never the favorite in the Stanley Cup contender predictions, one has to admit that the Canes are truly a league powerhouse.

After making a big move last summer by trying to add heavyweights with the arrivals of Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty, now General Manager Don Waddell seems to be preparing another big move this year to try to improve his team.

According to information reported by insider Elliotte Friedman, Carolina is currently in the running to acquire two star players in Vladimir Tarasenko and Erik Karlsson.

Everything would currently depend on the contract extension of Sebastian Aho which should be around 8 years at $9.5 million per season.

Wow! Imagine the firepower of the Hurricanes, if they were to add the recent Norris Trophy winner, and maybe even the 31-year-old Russian forward.

In the case of Karlsson, again according to Friedman, there would only be two possible destinations for the Swedish defenseman: Pittsburgh and Carolina.

On the other hand, for Tarasenko, several teams would be in the running, as Ottawa, San Jose, and Nashville would be competing with the Canes. However, he would be looking for a one-season deal to try to boost his value for a future contract in the summer of 2024, when the salary cap is expected to skyrocket.

The Hurricanes will definitely be a team to watch in the coming weeks.
