Despite a first-round victory since 2004 for the Maple Leafs, the organization and fans still have a very bitter taste in their mouths from the end of this season.

Once again, the team collapsed in the playoffs, while they were technically facing an opponent within their reach. Even worse, they were shown the exit door in just five games, narrowly avoiding a sweep.

It's clear that important decisions will have to be made over the summer, and they will certainly have a major impact on the future of the organization.

In fact, during his end-of-season press conference, General Manager Kyle Dubas did not offer much reassurance to his core group of star players when he was asked about the possibility of trading one of them.

He even went on to give credit to the Florida Panthers, who had the courage to trade two big pieces of their lineup in Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar, to add an element that changed everything for them with Matthew Tkachuk.

In connection with a possible departure during the summer of one of the four stars of the core, which is made up of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander, The Athletic's informant, Pierre LeBrun, revealed something very big on this subject.

In short, LeBrun believes that Matthews is untouchable and that he will sign a contract extension soon. As for Tavares, he cannot be traded due to his no-move clause and his contract. As for Nylander, he is the least attractive since he only has one year left on his contract.

So, in the eyes of the informant, Marner is the obvious target to leave the Leafs, because he still has two years left on his contract and his no-move clause will not take effect until July 1st next year.

According to LeBrun, Toronto will demand at least a top-notch defenseman in a potential transaction for their 26-year-old forward.

The Maple Leafs will certainly be a team to watch in the coming weeks.
