The Oilers have just signed a prospect that was eligible for the 2023 draft
Yesterday, we learned that the Edmonton Oilers had acquired the rights of prospect Jayden Grubbe via trade from the New York Rangers.
Well, the organization also announced later that they had agreed with him on the terms of a three-year entry-level contract in the NHL.
In an unusual turn of events, if he had not been acquired by Edmonton and had not signed a contract before the June 1st deadline, Grubbe would have been eligible again for the 2023 draft.
It's quite a dramatic last-minute turnaround for him as he was just a few hours away from having to go through the draft experience again, and now he ends up with a professional contract in his pocket.
A third-round pick in 2021, Grubbe is a 20-year-old center who has accumulated 67 points in 64 games in the WHL. He has been the captain of the Red Deer Rebels for the last three seasons."
