The Predators have made an important decision regarding the future of Alex Galchenyuk
Just a few days after the official announcement of the transaction involving Ryan Johansen and Alex Galchenyuk, Barry Trotz made a significant decision about the future of the former Montreal Canadiens forward.
Indeed, according to information reported by Pierre LeBrun, the Nashville Predators do not plan to grant him a contract by July 1st, making him an unrestricted free agent in a few days.
This decision means that Barry Trotz literally gave Ryan Johansen to the Colorado Avalanche, all while retaining 50% of his salary (4 million dollars per year) for the next two seasons. The Predators truly want to start a new chapter, and it wouldn't be surprising to see a few veterans being traded in the coming weeks.
As for Alex Galchenyuk, this is his 8th team in the last five years. He never managed to establish himself as a front-line forward following his stint in Montreal. He had a very good season in the AHL, scoring 16 goals and 26 assists (42 points) in 42 games, but he was unable to make his mark on the score sheet in his 11 games played with the Avalanche.
