The next Andrei Vasilevskiy would like to play for the Montreal Canadiens
Since the knee injury sustained by Carey Price, the one that unfortunately ended his career, the Canadiens have been looking for a number one goaltender for the coming years. Despite the interesting progression of Samuel Montembeault last year and the selection of young Jacob Fowler, the Montreal organization has no guarantee that either of these netminders will become a top-tier goaltender in the NHL.
The general manager of the Habs, Kent Hughes, is well aware of this and will have to find a solution to the situation. However, a golden opportunity might present itself to the Canadiens in the 2025 draft. Indeed, Quebecer Gabriel D'Aigle is considered by many experts to be the best goaltender prospect in many years.
During his appearance on the podcast The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro, analyst Simon Boisvert made a major statement about the 16-year-old, showcasing the full extent of his talent. According to him, there's no doubt that the Victoriaville Tigres' goaltender will be drafted in the top-5, even comparing him to a certain Andrei Vasilevskiy.
"For me, Gabriel D'Aigle is the next Andrei Vasilevskiy. It's not because I'm a Quebecer, it's not because I'm biased. I tell it like it is. Right now, for me, Gabriel D'Aigle is the god of goaltenders!" - Simon Boisvert
Wow! A statement that speaks volumes about the potential of the Quebecer!
In an interview on CJSO 101.7FM, the young goalie admitted that he dreams of wearing the Canadiens' jersey. Is Gabriel D'Aigle the long-sought solution for the Habs to finally have a franchise goaltender?
"Of course. For all Quebecers, it's a dream to play for the Montreal Canadiens, and I'm one of them. Wearing such a revered jersey, it's definitely impressive!" - Gabriel D'Aigle
It's hard to predict where the Habs will pick in two years, but one thing's for sure, Kent Hughes should do everything in his power to try to acquire the young Quebec goalie.
At only 16 years old, Gabriel D'Aigle is a goalie standing at 6'4" and weighing nearly 210 pounds. During his first season in the QMJHL, he had a record of 13 wins and 6 losses, maintaining a goals-against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .894.
