During a post-season interview and press conference, he confirmed that he was considering making a trade similar to the one involving Kirby Dach.
In other words, he wouldn't hesitate to trade their second first round pick (acquired from the Panthers) or a young defenseman like Jordan Harris for a highly talented young forward. In the article, D'Amico presents three potential targets, as reported by Marco Normandin.
It's simply obvious.
2- Kaapo Kakko
Jeff Gorton, who previously worked with the New York Rangers, is familiar with a player currently on the third line of his team. This player is Kaapo Kakko, the 2nd overall pick in the 2019 Draft, selected one spot ahead of Kirby Dach.
Although still developing, Kakko had his best season yet at just 21 years old, scoring 18 goals and tallying 40 points in 82 games. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, he has high potential and represents an interesting option.
3- Alex Newhook
D'Amico's final suggestion concerns Alex Newhook, a 22-year-old center who was selected immediately after Cole Caufield in the 2019 Draft, but was ranked in the top 5 by several experts.
Newhook was drafted 17th overall by the Colorado Avalanche and recorded 30 points, including 14 goals, in 82 games this season. Despite his modest height of 5-foot-10, he has had success in junior leagues and in the NCAA.
He has high potential and therefore represents an interesting option for the Canadiens. For more details and explanations, I invite you to read Marco D'Amico's article.
