The 22-year-old young man made significant strides in his development throughout the season. He has undoubtedly proven that he has the skills to become a top-6 forward, thanks to his responsible playing style and incredible puck protection ability.
Only time will tell what his offensive ceiling will be in the coming years, but it is clear that Kent Hughes made an excellent trade for the team's future, mainly exchanging surplus in Alexander Romanov to address a need with Dach.
However, the arrival of number 77 with the Canadiens goes back to a trade that turned out to be a true steal for the Montreal organization. In fact, it was thanks to Marc Bergevin that Kent Hughes managed to acquire Dach.
It all started with a trade back in the 2015-2016 season. At that time, during a challenging campaign where the team would finish in the bottom third of the league, Bergevin traded veterans Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in 2018, which later became Alexander Romanov.
Thanks to the second-round pick that turned into Romanov two years later, the Russian defenseman allowed them to acquire a former third overall draft pick during the 2022 draft.
Considering the absolute bargain price paid by the Canadiens to acquire Danault, which was already a steal, when you add the fact that another trade with the Hawks brought Dach for Weise and Fleischmann, it becomes outright ridiculous.
In my eyes, this trade by Bergevin was the best of his career with the Canadiens.
