According to information circulating from Edmonton and reported by journalist Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal, the Oilers' General Manager, Ken Holland, is said to be in search of a reliable and low-cost center player to solidify the depth of his lineup.

The name Jake Evans has surfaced, with the information coming from Edmonton, not Montreal.

Simultaneously, it has been learned that Holland might be willing to give up a draft pick or a prospect in return for the coveted forward. In the context of a deal for Evans, one should not expect a massive offer, but his salary of $1.7 million for two more seasons could yield something interesting for the Canadiens.

For a team that's tightly bound by the salary cap like the Oilers, a low-cost contract guaranteed for two seasons can be worth its weight in gold for the organization.

Considering that Evans might not be in the long-term plans of Kent Hughes, given his age of 27 and the club's pool of young prospects able to replace him soon, the Canadiens' GM might be tempted to monetize his player while he still has value on the market.

Moreover, with players like Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, Sean Monahan, and Christian Dvorak all capable of filling the center role this year, Evans's place becomes increasingly replaceable.

If the Oilers agree to pay with a prospect like Raphaël Lavoie or a second-round pick, Hughes is very likely to agree to trade Evans.

This will be a situation to watch in the coming weeks.
