Upcoming transaction between the Canadiens and the Lightning? A strange post raises mystery surrounding Alex Barré-Boulet
We have just learned of a rather strange situation that is particularly causing a stir directly from Tampa Bay, concerning forward Alex Barré-Boulet.
"Alex Barré-Boulet was absent from Tampa Bay Lightning's practice today. He wasn't placed on waivers.
If he isn't injured, could he be involved in a trade?
Since turning pro in 2018-19, ABB is the second-highest scorer in the entire AHL with 284 PTS (in 271 games)." -Jacob Stoller
Many people have expressed suspicion about the fact that the Quebecer forward was absent, while no known injury has been revealed about him.
"So Alex Barré-Boulet is either injured or involved in a trade? (and nothing indicates that he's injured)" -Dobber
Even the former scout for the Montreal Canadiens, Grant McCagg, raised something very interesting by mentioning this recently:
"Maybe we're seeing something like a Primeau-Alex Barré-Boulet trade?" - Grant McCagg
Needless to say, this is particularly fueling the rumor mill right now.
Could we really see a transaction involving Barré-Boulet and Primeau?
In my opinion, although the latter was extremely productive in the American League last year, scoring 84 points in 69 games, plus nine points in five playoff games, I don't think the Canadiens would benefit from moving Primeau to Tampa Bay.
Kent Hughes would acquire another forward, while spots are already very limited in the current lineup. At the very least, Barré-Boulet would need to be inserted into the top-9 to give him a real chance in Montreal, which seems impossible right now. I can't see Martin St-Louis placing him on this line, while Rafaël Harvey-Pinard is currently placed on the fourth unit.
In short, it was noteworthy information and this will be a case to follow in the coming hours.
