For the first time in many years, numerous fans and observers around the Montreal Canadiens are holding onto the hope that the team might surprise in 2024 and, who knows, maybe even make it to the playoffs.

With the return of Kirby Dach, the rise of young supporting players, and new, extremely talented prospects joining the group during the regular season, it's hard to believe that the Canadiens will endure another miserable season in 2024-2025.

Think of players like Logan Mailloux, Lane Hutson, Joshua Roy, David Reinbacher, and others. Optimism is warranted.

Even though the Canadiens seem to be improved, a recent post has dampened the spirits of many Montreal fans, and let's just say that several are shocked to see the Canadiens still in the depths of the NHL according to the 2024-2025 projections.

A disappointing post: Martin St-Louis' Canadiens to finish among the NHL's five worst teams again in 2024-2025

The new projections are out, the ones that are generally the most accurate and precise year after year... and unfortunately, the team led by Martin St-Louis once again finds itself in the top five worst NHL teams for the upcoming season.

"Caesars, DraftKings, and MGM give Montreal an average of 75.7 points for the 2024-2025 season. Only Chicago (73.3), Anaheim (70.7), Columbus (68.7), and San Jose (63) are predicted to do worse."

This resembles the predictions that were published before last season (2023-2024).

Does the fact that Kent Hughes has yet to find a top-6 forward via the NHL trade market have a significant impact on these results?

Would the arrival of a Patrik Laine, a Trevor Zegras, or a Martin Necas have changed things?

It's certain that a forward like those mentioned above makes a big difference in the ability of a second line to produce offensively. We know the Canadiens' first line can fulfill its role, but we still have questions about the second offensive line.

This throws cold water on the heads of fans and the organization, but at the same time, these are just projections. The beauty of projections is that they can sometimes be proven wrong.

Otherwise, it could be interesting to have another top-5 pick in the next NHL draft to complete this rebuild.

And what about you-do you think Martin St-Louis and his team can defy the odds?

Do you believe the Canadiens will be a better team than the projections suggest?
