That said, this is not the first time that we have talked about this situation, but sooner or later there will be some congestion on defense for the Canadiens, especially with the emergence of a certain Lane Hutson and the recall of Logan Mailloux.
As reported in a recent article published on the site Danslescoulisses.com, Kent Hughes will have important decisions to make regarding two veterans on the blue line, namely Michael Matheson and David Savard.
We know that Savard will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025 and that Matheson will have another year left on his contract after the 2024-2025 season.
However, according to La Presse journalist Richard Labbé, we could expect the Canadiens organization to shop around for the left-handed defenseman because he should break the bank on his next contract.
At least that's what he said during a discussion with his colleagues at La Presse.
Currently, the number could have excellent value on the trade market, but there is especially the fact that the Canadiens have a nice replacement in terms of offensive backs with Lane Hutson and Logan Mailloux.
In addition, the two young Canadiens players had an important role to play during Saturday night's game against the Islanders.
Mailloux scored his first career goal in the Bettman circuit and Huston was used for a little over 24 minutes by Martin St-Louis.
It could therefore be that Kent Hughes is a very busy man in the coming months and that some teams will have interest in Michael Matheson and David Savard.
