While the Canadiens are counting on the tandem of Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau, the future in goal for the organization may be south of the border.

When Kent Hughes selected Jacob Fowler in the third round of the 2023 draft, some scouts were already voting in him as the Canadiens' goaltender of the future and let's just say that his latest performances prove them right.

Fowler, who plays for Boston College in the NCAA, is having a phenomenal start to the season at the American university level, recording two shutouts in his first three starts of the year.

After a shutout where he made 24 saves against Michigan State, his team won 5-0 against the American International College team. During this game, Fowler stopped all 20 shots sent his way.

Some may say that it is only the beginning of the season and that the young 19-year-old goalie was lucky, but he dominated in 2023-2024 with a record of 32 wins in 39 starts, a goals-against average of 2.14 and an excellent efficiency rate of .926.

And we recall that he represented the United States at the last World Junior Hockey Championship last year and that the Americans won the gold medal against Sweden.

Even though Jacob Fowler's presence in the Canadiens uniform is not for tomorrow, it remains that his spectacular start to the season must delight Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton and it is obvious that Canadiens fans are very eager to see him at work.

He will certainly begin his professional career next year and he will be close to Montreal and in everyone's eyes, well installed in the net of the Laval Rocket.
