A promising meeting between CH management and SKA about Demidov
With the new reality of agreements between the NHL and the KHL, the Montreal Canadiens' management, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, must move heaven and earth to bring Ivan Demidov to North America by 2024.
The team's two leaders have even called a meeting with the Russian player's camp.
This was revealed just moments ago by SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg:
"SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg says he just had a Zoom meeting with Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and the Canadiens' management to discuss Ivan Demidov.
They had a 'very positive conversation about how they will all develop Ivan. There was no mention of his departure for Canada during this meeting.'"

The aim is to find the best way to collaborate with the organization that holds the rights to the young Russian player, ensuring his development is not hindered, allowing him to excel upon his arrival in the NHL in the 2025-2026 season.
Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and Several Canadiens Officials Attended the Meeting with SKA
This was a one-and-a-half-hour meeting.
"Everything indicates that Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov will play in the KHL next season. CH and SKA Saint Petersburg officials had a one-and-a-half-hour virtual meeting in recent days to discuss the development plan for the recent fifth overall pick."

Here is an excerpt from his remarks:
"I had a one-and-a-half-hour Zoom discussion with representatives from the Montreal Canadiens. Head coach Martin St-Louis was not present, but special advisor to hockey operations Vincent Lecavalier, the club president, the general manager, and all the executives were."
"We discussed Demidov; everything was well discussed. It was a very positive conversation about how we are going to develop Ivan at SKA. There was no conversation about him leaving for Canada now."
 SKA head coach, Roman Rotenberg
It is rare to see an NHL and KHL organization collaborate with a common goal of helping a budding star's development.
If the current trend continues and the plan remains unchanged, Ivan Demidov will play in the KHL next season and then join the Montreal Canadiens lineup in September 2025.
Rotenberg emphasized that Montreal and SKA have a common plan and are working together to ensure Ivan Demidov can develop in the best possible way.
Wow, we love hearing this kind of news!
At 18 years old, Ivan Demidov created a wave of excitement when his name echoed through the amphitheater in Las Vegas on June 28. He amassed 60 points in 30 games last season in Russian junior hockey (MHL). Barring any repercussions from his Russian team, Ivan Demidov will lace up his skates in the KHL in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned.
