The Canadiens have found their Andrei Vasilevskiy and it's huge
Carey Price's departure left a big void in the Canadiens' organization, and we're still wondering who will succeed him.
At the moment, it doesn't seem clear. It looks like Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau will split time in goal almost equally this year, with no clear-cut number one goalie.
The successor to Carey Price won't leave any doubt. They will be so solid that their coach will have no choice but to play them, much like Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa Bay.
Speaking of Vasilevskiy, the Canadiens have a young prospect who, at the same age and in the same league, achieved better results. That's very encouraging.
Statistics of Yevgeni Volokhin and Andrei Vasilevskiy in the season following their draft year:
Yevgeni Volokhin (MHL): Record of 22 wins, 4 losses, and 4 overtime losses / Goals against average of 1.57 / Save percentage of 0.938
Andrei Vasilevskiy (MHL): Record of 17 wins, 6 losses, and 4 overtime losses / Goals against average of 1.93 / Save percentage of 0.930
Not bad for a 5th round pick! I'm not saying the young player will definitely be as good as Vasilevskiy or the successor to Carey Price, but he's increasing his chances season by season.
This year, he'll be playing in the KHL, and his results will be crucial for his future career.
Jacob Fowler is also eyeing the future role of Canadiens' number one goalie. The competition will be intense in a few years!
