A surprise on the 3rd offensive line of Habs lineup?

During the opening of the free agency market, Kent Hughes made a smart move by signing Alex Barré-Boulet to a one-way contract worth $775,000.

Last year, the forward from Montmagny played 36 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning. During his time in the NHL, he tallied 9 points, including 6 goals. However, he had an impressive streak of 7 points in 8 games between October 21 and November 7, 2023.

Alex Barré-Boulet has shown some offensive potential and is very excited to join the Montreal Canadiens organization. Given the lack of offensive talent beyond the top 5, he will surely have a chance to earn a spot on the regular lineup during the next training camp and might even shake things up.

In a post on the X platform, we get a glimpse of what the Canadiens' starting lineup might look like for the upcoming season. This post also hints at the plans for Barré-Boulet.

On the first day of free agency, July 1, the Daily Faceoff - Fantasy account on X predicted the starting lineups for all 32 NHL teams. When it came to the Canadiens, Alex Barré-Boulet was placed on the third line alongside Christian Dvorak and Josh Anderson. Barré-Boulet has a strong offensive instinct, Dvorak is responsible in his own zone, and Josh Anderson is a speedster who can create opportunities when he uses his speed.

His two selections to the American Hockey League All-Star Game suggest that he has offensive talent, but he never had the chance to showcase it on a team with strong offensive depth.

We should remain cautious, as this is more of a projection than a prediction from Daily Faceoff - Fantasy. Nonetheless, there's no harm in hoping that Barré-Boulet starts the season on the Canadiens' third line and, who knows, finally revitalizes his NHL career.
