After making a big splash at the draft with the selections of Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage, and the trade that brought Finnish player Patrik Laine to the Canadiens, General Manager Kent Hughes might add another young talent to the organization with a professional tryout contract this week.

Over the years, the Canadiens have accustomed fans and the media to morning signings on weekdays, but now a piece of information is circulating on social media this Labor Day Sunday in Quebec.

A new name, unknown to fans, has surfaced without much explanation or public announcement from the Canadiens regarding a player. Several websites and blogs have shared the news.

Are the Canadiens about to sign a professional tryout contract with Cameron Whynot?

Well-known Quebec blogger Maxime Truman shared this information on the platform X. He suggested that an official announcement on this matter could be expected at the beginning of the week.

He is not the only one, as several bloggers and journalists have reported a signing, but the organization has not made an official announcement to date.

This has not been publicly confirmed by Chantal Machabée's team.

Is it because the signing is too minor to warrant an announcement, such as a post on X or an official press release? It's hard to say...

Could it be a mistake or a typo on a site often referenced by bloggers and journalists? It's not impossible...

For now, we will have to wait. Certainly, journalists will be active on this topic at the beginning of the week. We should have a confirmation within the next 48 hours.

Of course, this is far from the media eclipse of the Patrik Laine trade, but it is still intriguing. This will be a situation to watch closely at the beginning of the week, as it could be an interesting depth option for the Laval Rocket or the Trois-Rivières Lions (via PTO). The chances of him playing with Montreal in the short term are very slim when you consider the depth and the long list of defensemen ahead of him.

Among the credible sites indicating that defenseman Cameron Whynot is now a member of the Montreal Canadiens, one can read the summary on Yahoo Sports.

At just 21 years old, Cameron Whynot is a 6-foot-2, 181-pound left-handed defenseman. Selected in the third round by the Calgary Flames in 2021, the defenseman played four seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads during his time in the QMJHL before heading to Acadia University in Canadian university hockey (USports) last season.

Looking closely at Cameron Whynot's statistics, it's clear that he could be classified as a defensive-minded defenseman. It will be interesting to see if he can secure a spot with Laval or Trois-Rivières.

More details will follow.
